Prominent businessman Pastori Bamuhwezi, the proprietor of Bamuhwezi Investments, has died after sustaining serious injuries in a road crash at Kagongi Trading Centre along the Ibanda–Mbarara Highway.
Bamuhwezi was travelling with his wife and son when their vehicle was involved in the accident. The three were rushed to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital, where Bamuhwezi later succumbed to his injuries.
According to family members, his wife remains in critical condition at the hospital, while their son is receiving treatment.
The businessman was widely known in western Uganda for his investments in the hospitality and coffee processing sectors. Through Bamuhwezi Hotel, coffee factories, bars and restaurants, he created employment opportunities and contributed significantly to the economic growth of Kazo District and the surrounding areas.
One family member described Bamuhwezi as a visionary entrepreneur whose impact on the region extended far beyond business.
“Kazo District has once again lost a great investor, Bamuhwezi Pastori of Bamuhwezi Enterprises. He was born in Ibanda but became one of the biggest developers of Kazo,” the relative said.
The relative added that Bamuhwezi was passionate about community development and supported numerous local initiatives.
“He was the man behind Bam Hotel, bars, restaurants and coffee factories. He loved people, added value to Kazo’s development and supported many families. Ibanda gave birth to you, but Kazo benefited from your vision. Your contribution will never be forgotten.”
Although police had not released an official account of how the crash occurred by the time of publication, relatives said the accident involved a trailer at Kagongi Trading Centre. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are ongoing.
