Tragedy as Mityana Woman Dies After Allegedly Inhaling Toxic Cooking Fumes

    By OnionJune 18, 2026

Police in Mityana District are investigating the death of a woman who is suspected to have died from carbon monoxide suffocation while cooking inside her home.

The deceased, identified as a resident of Mityana, was reportedly found unconscious after spending time preparing a meal using a charcoal stove in a poorly ventilated room. Efforts to save her life were unsuccessful.

According to preliminary reports, the woman is believed to have inhaled dangerous levels of carbon monoxide, a toxic gas produced when charcoal, firewood, or other fuels burn in enclosed spaces with inadequate ventilation.

Residents who discovered the victim raised an alarm and rushed to her aid, but she was pronounced dead before receiving medical assistance.

Police officers visited the scene and launched investigations to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident. Authorities are awaiting further findings, including medical examinations, to determine the precise cause of death.

Health experts have repeatedly warned the public about the dangers of using charcoal stoves and other fuel-burning appliances in poorly ventilated rooms. Carbon monoxide is often referred to as a “silent killer” because it has no color, smell, or taste, making it difficult to detect without specialized equipment. Exposure can lead to dizziness, headaches, unconsciousness, and death.

The incident has renewed calls for households to ensure proper ventilation when cooking indoors and to avoid sleeping in rooms where charcoal stoves or other fuel-burning appliances are still in use.

Police urged members of the public to take precautionary measures to prevent similar tragedies as investigations into the woman’s death continue.
