At least six people lost their lives in a devastating road crash involving a fuel tanker and a commuter taxi along the Masaka–Mutukula Highway on Wednesday.
The fatal accident occurred when a fuel tanker reportedly collided with a taxi carrying passengers, leaving the smaller vehicle severely damaged and causing multiple fatalities at the scene. Emergency responders, police officers, and local residents rushed to the area to assist survivors and recover victims from the wreckage.
Authorities confirmed that six people died as a result of the crash, while several others sustained injuries of varying severity. The injured were transported to nearby health facilities for medical treatment as rescue efforts continued.
Eyewitnesses described a horrific scene, with the impact leaving the taxi mangled. Some survivors were reportedly trapped inside the wreckage before being rescued by first responders and members of the public.
Traffic police cordoned off the area and began investigations to establish the exact circumstances that led to the collision. Preliminary findings were not immediately available, although officers said inquiries would focus on factors such as speed, driver conduct, and the condition of the vehicles involved.
