What Men Should Do To Reduce The Risk Of Prostrate Enlargement As They Grow Older

    By OnionApril 23, 2026

According to Healthline, the following recommendations can help lower the risk of prostate enlargement (also known as benign prostatic hyperplasia, or BPH) in men as they age.

Maintain a healthy weight because BPH risk has been connected to obesity. Maintain a healthy weight by engaging in regular exercise and eating a balanced diet.

Consume a diet high in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins to maintain prostate health. Include foods that are good for your prostate, like tomatoes, cruciferous vegetables (like broccoli and cauliflower), and omega-3-rich fish (like salmon and mackerel).

Limit your intake of alcohol and caffeine because these substances might irritate your prostate and make BPH symptoms worse. Consume coffee in moderation and moderate alcohol consumption.

Maintain optimum hydration by consuming enough water throughout the day. This supports urinary health and can lessen some BPH symptoms.

Exercise regularly: Take part in regular physical activities like cycling, swimming, or walking. Regular exercise can potentially lower the risk of BPH and aid to enhance overall health.

Give up smoking: Smoking has been associated with a higher incidence of BPH. Giving up smoking is good for your general health and may lower your risk of having prostate issues.

Manage your stress: Long-term stress can cause a number of health problems, including BPH. Use stress-reduction strategies including exercise, breathing exercises, and participating in your favorite hobbies or activities.
