Uganda Wildlife Authority Wins National Environment Sustainability Award

    By Muhumuza VensorJune 19, 2026

The Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) has been recognized for its outstanding contribution to environmental conservation after winning the Lead Agency National Environment Sustainability Award.

The prestigious award was presented during the National Environment Sustainability Awards ceremony held at Serena Hotel on Friday evening, where government agencies, environmental stakeholders, and conservation partners gathered to celebrate achievements in environmental protection and sustainable development.

UWA’s victory reflects years of dedicated work in wildlife conservation, ecosystem restoration, and biodiversity management across Uganda’s protected areas. The award also highlights the authority’s commitment to fulfilling its conservation mandate while embracing innovative approaches to environmental sustainability.

The recognition comes at a time when UWA has been strengthening science-driven conservation efforts. Recently, the authority released the State of Wildlife Resources in Uganda Report 2026, a landmark publication that provides insights into the status of the country’s wildlife populations, habitats, and conservation challenges.

Over the years, UWA has increasingly adopted technology and data-driven strategies to improve wildlife management. These include the use of SMART ranger patrol systems to enhance law enforcement and wildlife monitoring, as well as expanded habitat protection initiatives aimed at safeguarding critical ecosystems across the country.

This year’s awards were held under the theme “Innovation for Climate Resilience,” emphasizing the importance of creative and sustainable solutions in addressing environmental and climate-related challenges.

The award serves as a strong endorsement of UWA’s efforts to conserve Uganda’s rich biodiversity while supporting national and global environmental goals. It also recognizes the dedication of conservationists, rangers, researchers, and partners who continue to play a vital role in protecting the country’s natural heritage.

The achievement is expected to further strengthen UWA’s conservation agenda as it continues working to ensure the long-term survival of Uganda’s wildlife and ecosystems for future generations.
