Top 7 Richest Africans in 2026 Unveiled in Latest Forbes Ranking

    By OnionMay 30, 2026

Africa’s richest individuals have seen a strong rise in fortunes in 2026, driven by booming stock markets, stronger company earnings, and improving economic conditions across several key sectors.

According to the latest Forbes ranking, the continent’s billionaire club continues to expand in value, with a total combined wealth now estimated at over $126 billion. Manufacturing, luxury retail, mining, telecoms, and energy remain the dominant sources of wealth among Africa’s elite.

    1. Aliko Dangote – $28.5 billion

Nigeria’s industrial heavyweight Aliko Dangote retains his position as Africa’s richest person. His fortune has grown significantly thanks to a sharp rise in cement company shares and strong profits across his business empire, which spans manufacturing, sugar, fertilizer, and oil refining. His massive refinery project continues to shape expectations for Africa’s energy future.

    2. Johann Rupert & Family – $16.1 billion

South African luxury goods tycoon Johann Rupert holds second place. He chairs a global luxury empire behind brands such as Cartier and Montblanc, with strong international demand keeping his wealth stable and high.

    3. Abdulsamad Rabiu – $11.2 billion

Nigeria’s Abdulsamad Rabiu rises further up the rankings after recording one of the biggest wealth jumps on the continent. His BUA Group, heavily invested in cement and food production, benefited from rising share prices and strong industrial growth.

    4. Nicky Oppenheimer & Family – $10.6 billion

Former De Beers heir Nicky Oppenheimer remains one of South Africa’s wealthiest figures. His fortune is now largely driven by diversified private investments and long-term holdings in mining and conservation-linked ventures.

    5. Nassef Sawiris – $9.6 billion

Egyptian businessman Nassef Sawiris continues to dominate in construction and engineering, while also holding global stakes in major companies, including sports and fashion investments that have strengthened his international portfolio.

    6. Mike Adenuga – $6.5 billion

Nigeria’s Mike Adenuga, founder of Globacom and a major player in oil exploration, maintains his position among Africa’s richest, with diversified interests in telecoms and energy supporting his steady wealth.

    7. Naguib Sawiris – $5.6 billion

Rounding out the top seven is Egyptian telecoms and investment tycoon Naguib Sawiris, whose diversified holdings in telecoms, media, and investments continue to secure his place among Africa’s billionaire elite.

    Bigger Picture

The 2026 Forbes list highlights a growing concentration of wealth at the top, with Africa’s richest individuals benefiting from rising company valuations, strong regional stock exchanges, and expanding global investment ties. South Africa, Nigeria, Egypt, and Morocco remain the leading hubs for billionaires on the continent.
