Just in: AK47’s Widow Nalongo Maggie Kaweesi Dies at Mengo Hospital

Nalongo Maggie Kaweesi, the widow of late Ugandan singer Emmanuel Mayanja, popularly known as AK47, has died after reportedly developing health complications. She passed away on Monday at Mengo Hospital, where she had been receiving treatment.

The news was confirmed by family friend and music promoter Vegas, who said Kaweesi had been admitted to the hospital for three days after falling ill shortly after returning to Uganda.

According to Vegas, Kaweesi had recently travelled back to the country when she began experiencing complications affecting her internal organs.

“It is sad news. God has called her. She had just returned to Uganda,” Vegas said. “She frequently travelled in and out of the country, but this time she developed complications with her internal organs. She passed away at Mengo Hospital after spending three days there.”

By the time of publication, the family had not disclosed the exact cause of her illness or announced funeral and burial arrangements.

Kaweesi rose to public prominence through her relationship with AK47, the younger brother of musicians Jose Chameleone, Weasel and Pallaso. AK47 died in March 2015 after collapsing at a bar in Kampala.

The couple had twins together, and following the singer’s death, Kaweesi relocated abroad with the children. She later brought them back to Uganda, where they reunited with members of the Mayanja family.

In 2021, Kaweesi made headlines again when she held a traditional introduction ceremony with musician Rabadaba in Entebbe. The couple later relocated to the United Kingdom before their relationship eventually ended following widely publicized disagreements.

Her death marks another tragic chapter for the Mayanja family and has drawn condolences from friends, fans and members of Uganda’s entertainment industry.
