A Makerere University student has been found dead in her room, according to student leaders.
The deceased has been identified as Francisca Amongin, a second-year student at the university’s College of Education and External Studies (CEES), where she was pursuing a Bachelor of Science with Education degree, majoring in Mathematics and Economics.
Her body was discovered in her room on Saturday morning and was taken to Mulago mortuary for a postmortem examination.
Guild Minister for Students’ Affairs Owen Nasasira said Amongin had been living near Full Makerere Gospel Church and originally came from Ibuje in Apac District. He noted that the cause of her death had not yet been determined.
“It is with a heavy heart and great sorrow that I inform you we have lost our dear sister and colleague, Ms. Amongin Francisca,” Nasasira said. “She was residing near the Full Gospel Church, and hailed from Ibuje, Apac District.”
He added that further details would be shared once they emerged from official sources, and called on the university community to keep Amongin’s family, friends, and classmates in their prayers during the difficult time.
