A startling claim has emerged as part of a corruption investigation in Iraq. According to the claim, $57 million in cash and 27 kilograms of pure gold were seized during a search of the home of MP Hind Al-Abbasi. It was also reported that gold underwear was also found in the operation.
As part of the investigation, 47 suspects, including MPs and bureaucrats, were reportedly arrested. The operation was described as part of a wider investigation into the misuse of public funds and allegations of corruption.
Although MP Hind Al-Abbasi appears on the official website of the Iraqi parliament, detailed statements from official institutions regarding the alleged search and seized materials have not yet been confirmed.
The latest incident in Iraq is part of a broader anti-corruption operation launched by the government of Prime Minister Ali al-Za’id. The operations targeted members of parliament, senior bureaucrats and public officials. Security forces carried out dawn raids in multiple locations, mainly in Baghdad.
At least seven members of parliament and a number of senior public officials were among the 47 detained. Millions of dollars in cash, gold, weapons and numerous ammunition were seized in corruption investigations.
In an operation announced by Iraq’s Supreme Judicial Council, about $10 million in cash, 3 billion Iraqi dinars, gold jewelry, numerous long-barreled weapons and about 40 properties were seized in an investigation related to the former deputy oil minister.
Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi said there would be no compromise in the fight against corruption, hinting that operations could be expanded to include new individuals.
