The Inspectorate of Government has arrested Ms Atim Mega, a Senior Agricultural Engineer working with Apac District Local Government, over allegations that she used forged documents to secure her government job.
According to the Inspectorate, Atim appeared at the IGG regional office in Lira on Monday where she recorded a statement before investigators. She is expected to be arraigned before court in Apac District on May 26, 2026.
Investigators say the case stems from Atim’s application for the position of Senior Agricultural Engineer in May 2024. She was later appointed to the post after reportedly presenting documents showing previous work experience.
However, preliminary investigations found that one of the documents she submitted, an appointment letter dated February 3, 2020, allegedly from Itek-Okille Farmers’ Cooperative Society, was not genuine.
The leadership of the cooperative society reportedly denied ever employing Atim and disowned the appointment letter, describing it as fake.
Authorities believe the document was used as part of the qualifications that helped her obtain the government position.
Under Section 328 of the Penal Code Act Cap 128, any person who knowingly presents or uses a false document commits an offence and can face the same punishment given to individuals convicted of forgery.
The arrest is part of a wider crackdown by the Inspectorate of Government targeting people accused of using forged academic papers, fake appointment letters, and fraudulent professional documents to obtain public jobs in local governments across Uganda.
