The Victoria Group of Companies handed over food relief to more than 1,000 Muslims in Naminya and Bujowali villages, Jinja, on Friday, marking the end of Ramadan with a donation that included rice, beans, and sugar.
The sugar was supplied by Victoria Sugar, one of the Group’s subsidiaries based in Luwero.
Simon Mukose, Operations Manager at Victoria Nile Plastics Ltd, represented the company during the handover. He congratulated the Muslim community on completing the fasting period and urged them to carry forward the values of generosity and patience that Ramadan encourages.
“This gesture reflects our belief in growing together with the communities around us,” Mukose said, adding that the donation was part of the Group’s long-standing commitment to community development, not a one-off act of charity.
Local leaders welcomed the support, thanking Victoria Group for what they described as consistent investment in the welfare of surrounding communities. Residents also pointed to the company’s role as a major employer of young people in the region as an equally important contribution to local livelihoods.
“Victoria is not just a business. They are a partner in our development,” said one community representative.
The Victoria Group operates across several sectors of Uganda’s economy, including manufacturing, agro-processing, and industrial production. Its sugar arm has drawn particular praise from sugarcane farmers in the Bunyoro sub-region, who credit the company with pushing outgrower prices upward and improving conditions for smallholder farmers.
The Group has built a reputation for weaving social responsibility into its day-to-day operations, with regular outreach programs, infrastructure support, and welfare initiatives across the communities where it operates.
