Ugandan Woman Arrested After Being Caught Slaughtering Goat She Stole from Her Neighbour

    By OnionApril 17, 2026

A police sniffer dog tracked a suspected goat thief one kilometre from the scene of the crime directly to her home in Kyegegwa District, leading to her arrest, police have said.

Bakebelamu Teopista, who operates a local butcher stall, was arrested after the dog, Bruno, picked up a human scent at the scene and followed it to her residence at Kasambya Village, Kyegegwa Town Council.

According to police, on the night of April 15 2026, at an unknown time, Teopista allegedly broke into the home of a resident in the same village, stole one of his goats and slaughtered it roughly 10 metres from the victim’s house.

The victim reported the theft to Kyegegwa Police, who responded by deploying a team of investigators together with the K9 unit. Officers arrived to find the scene well preserved, which allowed Bruno to work effectively.

The dog picked up a human scent at the crime scene and tracked it for approximately one kilometre, leading the team of officers straight to Teopista’s residence.

Upon searching the premises, police recovered the skin of the stolen goat. The complainant identified the skin as belonging to his animal, and it was taken in as evidence.

Teopista was arrested and is currently the subject of an ongoing investigation. Her work as a butcher, police noted, is part of the picture investigators are looking into as the case develops.

Kyegegwa Police have not yet indicated when she will appear in court.
