Ugandan Man Removed From a Wedding WhatsApp Group For Saying it Will End in Tears

    By Aijuka PeterMarch 3, 2026

A Ugandan man has been removed from a wedding WhatsApp group after he told fellow members that the upcoming marriage would end in tears, a comment that triggered an immediate exit from the group chat.

The man was part of a group created to share wedding arrangements among guests, family, and friends. Amid the usual exchange of programme details, outfit colours, and venue updates, he sent a message predicting that the marriage was headed for failure. The group administrator removed him from the chat shortly after.

The incident has since made its way onto social media, where it has drawn strong reactions from Ugandans online. Many sided with the administrator, saying a wedding group chat was not the appropriate place for such a comment. Others argued the man had a right to express his opinion, with some suggesting he may have had genuine reasons for his concern.

“People are being removed for telling the truth now?” one user wrote on X, while another responded, “A WhatsApp group with the whole family is not the place for that. Speak to the person privately.”

It is not known what prompted the man to share his prediction in the group, or whether he has a personal history with either the bride or groom. He has not publicly commented on his removal.

Wedding WhatsApp groups have become a standard part of event planning in Uganda, used to coordinate logistics, share updates, and keep guests informed in the weeks leading up to the ceremony. They typically include a wide mix of people, from close family to distant relatives and colleagues, which many say makes them unsuitable for controversial or sensitive conversations.

A Kampala-based counsellor, speaking generally on the matter, said concerns about a relationship should always be raised privately. “If someone has a worry, the right step is a one-on-one conversation, not a public group message,” they said.

The wedding is reported to be proceeding as planned. The removed man has not made any attempt to rejoin the group, according to those familiar with the situation.

The story has continued to circulate online, with many sharing their own experiences of tense moments in wedding group chats.
