Uganda Safe for Tourists Despite Imported Ebola Cases from DRC

    By OnionMay 19, 2026
Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) has reassured travelers and the international community that Uganda remains safe for travel despite recent Ebola reports linked to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

In a press release issued on May 19, 2026, UTB said Uganda has only recorded two isolated imported Ebola cases involving Congolese nationals who entered the country from the DRC. According to the statement, one patient passed away and was later repatriated, while the second patient is currently undergoing treatment under the supervision of the Ministry of Health.

UTB emphasized that there is currently no local transmission or community infection within Uganda. The board noted that the Ministry of Health continues to maintain strong surveillance systems, including screening, contact tracing, and rapid response measures across the country.

“Uganda remains safe, open, and welcoming for tourism, business, and investment,” the statement read.

The tourism body also highlighted Uganda’s experience in handling Ebola outbreaks and other epidemics, adding that tourism activities, national parks, hotels, conference venues, and transport services are operating normally.

Visitors and tourism stakeholders were encouraged to continue observing standard hygiene practices such as regular handwashing and the use of sanitizers while enjoying Uganda’s tourism attractions.

The statement was signed by UTB Chief Executive Officer Juliana Kagwa.
