Tanzania President Seen With Co-Wives During Family Gathering Chaired by Their Husband Mzee Hafidh

    By OnionMay 23, 2026

A family gathering involving Samia Suluhu Hassan has sparked widespread discussion online after the Tanzanian Head of State was reportedly seen alongside her three co-wives during a meeting chaired by their husband, Mzee Hafidh.

Photos and clips circulating on social media showed the women seated together in what appeared to be a calm and respectful family setting, drawing attention from many East Africans who described the moment as rare and culturally significant.

The meeting reportedly focused on family matters and unity, with Mzee Hafidh presiding over the gathering.

The development has triggered mixed reactions across social platforms, with some praising the family for maintaining harmony despite the complexities often associated with polygamous marriages.

Others expressed surprise at the image of a sitting president participating openly in such a traditional family structure.

In many African societies, polygamy remains a recognized cultural and religious practice, although it is uncommon for a serving head of state to be publicly associated with such an arrangement.

The images therefore quickly attracted attention beyond Tanzania, fueling debate on leadership, culture, and modern family dynamics.

Supporters of President Samia argued that private family matters should not overshadow her leadership and governance record, while critics questioned the symbolism and public perception surrounding the issue.

Despite the online debate, the gathering appeared peaceful and organized, with observers noting the level of respect and cooperation displayed among the family members.

The incident has since become one of the most talked-about social and  political conversations in the region.
