Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia has donated Shs50 million to the Iteso Kingdom and been honoured with a traditional name by the Emorimor of Teso following the conclusion of a three-day free eye camp in Bukedea district.
The Emorimor, Paul Sande Emolot, conferred the name “Eminat Sudhir” on Dr. Ruparelia and his wife Jyotsna at the closing ceremony of the Rajiv Ruparelia Memorial Eye Camp held at Bukedea Teaching Hospital on Sunday.
Thousands of patients from across the Teso sub-region received free eye treatment, screening and surgery during the camp, which ran from March 27 to 29 and was organised by the Ruparelia Foundation in partnership with Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among.
A new ambulance was also handed over to Bukedea district at the same ceremony, donated jointly by Speaker Among and Kachumbala County MP-elect David Beecham Okwere.
Health officials described the outreach as one of the largest free eye camps ever conducted in Eastern Uganda, with many patients accessing specialised eye care for the first time in years.
Local leaders said the camp addressed a longstanding gap in eye health services in the region.
The camp was organised in memory of the late Rajiv Ruparelia, son of Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia.
