SHAME! Four District Senior Officials Arrested for Selling Government Jobs

    By Aijuka PeterMarch 12, 2026

Four Mitooma District officials have been arrested for allegedly selling government jobs and extorting money from job applicants during ongoing local government recruitment exercises, the State House Anti-Corruption Unit has announced.

The arrests were made on Thursday afternoon in a joint operation between the Anti-Corruption Unit and the Uganda Police Force in Mitooma District. Those arrested are Chief Administrative Officer Mrs. Nakityo Joanita, District Health Officer Mr. Mugisha Sadic, District Service Commission Chairperson Mr. Tugume Sam Karakuza, and Senior Education Officer Mr. Nabimanya Richard. Several other suspects are still at large.

Investigations reveal that Nakityo repeatedly interfered with the functions of the Service Commission, taking over responsibilities such as scheduling interviews and selecting technical advisors. She is also accused of directly influencing how candidates were scored by the District Service Commission Chairperson.

Tugume is alleged to have extorted between 7 million and 25 million shillings from 23 candidates, promising them jobs in the ongoing recruitment exercise.

Mugisha, the District Health Officer, is accused of leaking interview questions and answers to selected candidates and engaging in influence peddling to ensure certain applicants were scored highly, with two candidates receiving 48 out of 50 marks.

Nabimanya is alleged to have contacted the District Service Commission Chairperson to secure favorable assessments for some education officers during interviews.

Among those still being sought is Mrs. Owarimpa Esther, a Parish Chief and LC3 Councillor of Kashenshero Sub-county, who allegedly collected money from applicants with false promises of securing them jobs.

The Anti-Corruption Unit said investigations are ongoing and corruption charges are expected to be filed against the suspects in the coming days. The public has been urged to report any incidents of extortion during recruitment exercises to the relevant authorities.
