Hundreds of residents have packed the grounds of Bukedea Teaching Hospital on Friday for the Rajiv Ruparelia Memorial Eye Camp, one of the largest community health outreaches the region has seen. The camp, which is offering free eye screening, treatment, and surgery to all who show up, is running through March 29, 2026.
The initiative is organized by the Ruparelia Group in honor of the late Rajiv Ruparelia, who was widely known for his commitment to uplifting vulnerable communities.
Medical teams, volunteers, and health science students from Victoria University are working through the crowds on the ground, racing to attend to as many patients as possible before the camp wraps up.
For many residents, the outreach fills a gap that money simply cannot bridge. Beneficiaries say it is not just their sight being restored but their hope, in communities where specialized medical care has long been out of reach.
Organizers say the camp is a direct reflection of how Rajiv Ruparelia lived, and the turnout suggests his legacy is landing exactly where he would have wanted it.
