A violent incident at a daycare centre in Gabba has left several toddlers injured and a community demanding answers after a man slipped past security and turned on young children in broad daylight.
The attack happened at Ggaba Early Childhood Daycare Centre, where the suspect is believed to have blended in with parents dropping off or checking on their children. Instead of raising suspicion, he was able to move through the premises calmly at first, even interacting briefly with staff.
Moments later, the situation changed without warning. The man moved into the children’s area, secured the gate, and began assaulting the toddlers using a sharp object. The victims were all very young, most between two and three years old, making the attack especially disturbing for both staff and parents.
Teachers inside the facility reacted quickly once they realized what was happening. Some rushed to shield the children while others called for help, drawing attention from people nearby. The noise and panic brought in residents and security personnel from the surrounding area.
The suspect attempted to run but was stopped before he could get away. A security guard attached to the nearby Fabba Community is credited with helping restrain him as others closed in.
What followed was a surge of anger from residents who had gathered at the scene. Emotions ran high, and the suspect was nearly beaten by the crowd before police officers intervened and took him into custody. He was removed from the scene in a police vehicle under tight security.
Authorities struggled to contain the crowd as more people arrived. Security teams, including both police and military officers, fired warning shots into the air to disperse residents and prevent further violence.
As the situation unfolded, parents began arriving in large numbers, many visibly shaken and desperate for information about their children. The scene outside the daycare quickly turned into one of confusion, fear, and urgent questions.
Local leadership has condemned the incident and is pressing for a full investigation into how the attacker managed to access the facility so easily. The focus now is on accountability and ensuring such a breach does not happen again.
Inspector General of Police Abas Byakagaba visited the scene shortly after the incident and called for calm, assuring the public that investigations are underway. He also appealed to anyone with useful information about the suspect to come forward and assist police efforts.
