Man Admitted to Hospital After 8-Hour Erection Caused by Roadside Herbal Mixture

    By OnionJune 15, 2026

A young man has been rushed to hospital after experiencing a painful and prolonged erection lasting approximately eight hours after consuming a roadside herbal aphrodisiac sold by an informal vendor.

According to a report by Daily Nation, the man developed severe complications shortly after taking the unregulated herbal mixture, which is commonly sold along busy roadsides as a sexual enhancement remedy.

Medical personnel confirmed that the patient suffered from priapism, a dangerous condition in which blood becomes trapped in the genital tissue, leading to prolonged and painful erection. Doctors warned that if not treated urgently, the condition can cause permanent tissue damage and long-term complications.

Health experts say the incident highlights the growing risks associated with unregulated herbal products, many of which contain unknown or untested chemical substances. They noted that users often consume such mixtures without understanding their potential side effects.

Doctors further emphasized that any erection lasting more than four hours should be treated as a medical emergency, requiring immediate hospital attention to prevent irreversible harm.

The Pharmacy and Poisons Board has repeatedly cautioned the public against using unapproved herbal sexual enhancement products, warning that many of them are not subjected to safety or quality testing.

Despite these warnings, roadside herbal remedies remain widely used across the country due to their affordability and easy accessibility. Health professionals, however, insist that this convenience comes with serious health risks.

The incident has reignited calls for stricter regulation and enforcement against illegal herbal products, alongside increased public awareness campaigns to educate citizens on the dangers involved.

Authorities are expected to intensify monitoring of informal vendors as similar medical emergencies continue to be reported in different parts of the country.
