Four Students Injured After School Coaster Collides With Fuel Tanker on Kampala–Gulu Highway

    By Aijuka PeterMarch 9, 2026

Four students of St Peter’s Naalya Secondary School were on Sunday morning injured when their school coaster was involved in a three-vehicle accident along the Kampala-Gulu highway in Nakasongola district.

The crash occurred at around 9:30 AM at Kakindu village in Wabinyonyi sub-county.

Savannah regional police spokesperson Sam Twiineamazima said the school coaster, registration number UBQ 073H, which was travelling from the Gulu side, attempted to overtake a trailer but veered into the oncoming lane, resulting in a head-on collision with a fuel tanker. An ambulance that was following the coaster was also caught up in the accident.

The four injured students were identified as Christabella Awori, Claudia Namukisa, Margaret Atwine and Prudence Tumugabirwe. Police officers from Nakasongola rushed to the scene and transported them to health facilities in Kampala for treatment.

“Motorists are urged to exercise caution, especially before overtaking manoeuvres on busy highways, and to adhere to speed limits and road signs,” Mr Twiineamazima said.

The damaged school coaster and the Toyota Hiace ambulance, registration number UBK 257F, were towed to Katuugo Police Station. The fuel tanker, registration number UBQ 935Y, remained at the scene pending offloading of its contents before it could be moved.

Mr Twiineamazima said preliminary investigations point to careless overtaking as the likely cause of the crash, adding that inquiries are ongoing.
