The Anti-Corruption Court has remanded former Kamuli District Engineer Daniel Mufumba after he was charged with abuse of office and causing financial loss in connection with the alleged mismanagement of more than UGX 600 million meant for a road rehabilitation project.
Mufumba, who had reportedly been evading arrest, was produced in court following a joint operation by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SHACU), the Uganda Police Force, and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
He becomes the latest suspect to face charges in the case, joining former Kamuli District Chief Administrative Officer Nasser Mukiibi and former Chief Finance Officer Alex Kifuuse, who were previously arraigned over the same allegations.
According to the prosecution, the alleged offences were committed between May and June 2025 during the rehabilitation of the Nawanyago-Kisozi Road in Kamuli District.
Investigators allege that the three officials unlawfully processed and approved payments for supplies and services related to the project, including fuel, construction materials, traffic diversion signs, allowances and other expenditures.
The prosecution further claims that money was fraudulently paid to companies, including Raven Knights Ltd and Total Uganda Limited, resulting in a financial loss exceeding UGX 600 million.
Mufumba is also accused of authorising payments to himself by allegedly presenting himself as one of the project’s suppliers.
The case forms part of wider government efforts to crack down on corruption in public procurement and infrastructure projects, particularly at the local government level.
Mufumba was remanded after his court appearance and is expected to reappear as investigations and prosecution of the case continue. Authorities say the alleged irregular payments deprived the district of substantial public funds that were intended to improve road infrastructure for residents.
