BREAKING: Security Forces Raid Anita Among’s Home in Explosive Corruption Probe

    By OnionMay 16, 2026

Security agencies on Saturday conducted a search operation at the residence of former Speaker of Parliament Anita Among as part of ongoing investigations into alleged corruption, illicit enrichment, and money laundering.

The operation, led by officers from the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), involved personnel from the Uganda Police Force, the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), and the Police Forensics Department. Security deployment around the residence reportedly intensified from mid-afternoon, with multiple patrol vehicles and armed officers stationed at the premises.

Investigators are said to be gathering evidence linked to allegations surrounding Among’s financial dealings and accumulated wealth. Authorities had not officially confirmed whether the former Speaker was present at the residence during the operation by press time.

The developments come amid heightened political tensions following the conclusion of the 11th Parliament and the transition into the 12th Parliament. Debate over the Speakership race has intensified in recent months, drawing national attention and political rivalry among several senior figures.

The probe also revives earlier allegations of corruption that have surrounded some former parliamentary leaders. In April 2024, the United Kingdom imposed sanctions on Anita Among and other Ugandan officials under its Global Anti-Corruption Sanctions Regime, including an asset freeze and travel ban. In May 2024, the United States also announced sanctions against Among and several officials over corruption allegations.

The current investigation is reportedly being pursued under directives to strengthen anti-corruption efforts within government institutions. President Yoweri Museveni recently emphasized a renewed campaign against corruption during public remarks following his swearing-in ceremonies and political engagements.

Authorities have not yet disclosed whether any arrests have been made or if additional individuals are being investigated as part of the operation. Investigations remain ongoing.
