A Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) truck transporting soldiers from Agago District to Gulu City was involved in a road accident after it reportedly overturned on Saturday, leaving several soldiers injured.
The military vehicle is said to belong to the 5th Infantry Division Training School at Labwordwong Military Barracks in Agago District. It was reportedly en route to the 4th Infantry Division barracks in Gulu City when the crash occurred.
Initial reports indicated that at least 24 soldiers sustained serious injuries in the accident. However, the exact number of casualties could not be independently confirmed.
Claims circulating on social media also alleged that some soldiers had died and that more than 20 others were in critical condition. Those reports remained unverified at the time of publication.
Photos shared online showed the military truck lying overturned by the roadside, while other images appeared to depict injured soldiers receiving assistance after the crash.
By press time, the UPDF had not issued an official statement on the incident. The military had also not confirmed the number of people involved, the extent of the injuries, or the cause of the accident.
Authorities are expected to provide further details once investigations into the crash are completed.
