Sheema District Woman MP Adrine Katusiime Mwebesa has dismissed as fake an AI-generated image circulating on social media that appeared to show her kneeling before Local Government Minister and Masaka City Woman MP Justine Nameere.
The image sparked debate online, prompting Mwebesa to publicly address the matter and urge the public not to be misled.
In a statement shared on X, the legislator clarified that the widely circulated picture was digitally created and did not depict a real event.
“Kindly disregard those AI pictures; they’re fake,” Mwebesa said.
She accused the creator of the images of acting out of jealousy and urged the public to ignore the posts.
“Ladies and gentlemen, those images are fake. You all know that an idle mind is the devil’s workshop. I presume the one making them is just idle and jealous. Let’s just ignore him or her,” she wrote.
Mwebesa, however, warned against the misuse of artificial intelligence to create misleading content, describing the act as reckless and disrespectful.
“However, I condemn such acts of recklessness and disrespect. This can be tolerated once, but not forever!” she added.
The controversy subsided after Minister Justine Nameere shared authentic photographs from the meeting between the two leaders, showing them seated together in her office.
“Hon Adrine Katusiime, Maama Sheema, Woman MP Sheema District, visited my office. We discussed matters of development for our people, as always guided by Jajja wa Bazzukulu, President,” Nameere posted.
The manipulated image gained traction partly because images of some Ugandan politicians and public officials kneeling before senior leaders have circulated in the past, leading some social media users to initially believe it was genuine.
