State House Anti-Corruption Unit Arrests Two Accused of Destroying Homes, Crops Worth Shs1 Billion

Two men accused of forcibly taking over private land in Mukono District have been remanded to custody after appearing before the Mukono Chief Magistrate’s Court over multiple charges linked to alleged land grabbing.

Kayongo Bonniface and Kiseka Hamuza were charged with offences including malicious damage to property, destruction of growing crops, forcible entry and forcible detainer.

The suspects were arraigned by the Anti-Corruption Unit in coordination with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).

According to investigators, the alleged offences occurred between October and November 2025 in Luwunga Village, Nama Sub-county, Mukono District, where the accused, together with other individuals still at large, allegedly entered and occupied land without lawful authority.

The disputed property is described as land under Block 167, Plot 81 in Kyaggwe, measuring about 311 acres. The land is registered in the names of Kiwanuka Stella, who is listed as the administrator of the estate of the late Kiwanuka Joseph Musanze.

Prosecution alleges that during the illegal occupation, the suspects damaged property on the land, including four houses, and took away items such as metallic water tanks and water pumping machines.

Investigators further accuse the group of destroying crops and plantations, including maize, cassava, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, banana plantations and eucalyptus trees, with the total value of the destroyed property estimated at about Shs1 billion.

The two suspects were remanded until June 22, 2026, as investigations into the matter continue.
