Two university students have tragically died after a fire allegedly started by a jealous boyfriend engulfed their hostel room.
The victims, identified as Rebecca Misungi and Felister Francis, are said to have perished after the suspect reportedly stormed their shared residence and set it ablaze following a domestic dispute.
According to initial reports, the suspect arrived at the hostel carrying a container of fuel before igniting the room, trapping the two students inside as flames spread rapidly through the building.

Eyewitnesses and residents described a chaotic scene as the fire broke out, with screams heard from inside the building as the victims attempted to escape.
A boda boda rider who was nearby is said to have played a key role in the rescue attempt, managing to break into the burning structure. One of the students reportedly managed to get out briefly, but the other collapsed at the doorway as the fire intensified.
Emergency responders later arrived and rushed the victims to hospital, where they were treated for severe burns. However, both students succumbed to their injuries days later.
The incident has left the university community in deep mourning, with students and lecturers expressing shock and grief over the loss.
Authorities have launched investigations into the incident as concerns grow over rising cases of gender-based violence involving young people in relationships.
Residents and netizens have also taken to social media to condemn the attack, calling for justice for the victims and stronger measures to protect students in off-campus housing.
Further details surrounding the suspect’s whereabouts and possible charges have not yet been officially confirmed.
