A 32-year-old businesswoman has been killed during a violent home invasion in Kakumiro District, in an attack that also saw armed assailants escape with millions of shillings.
The deceased, identified as Alice Natukunda, was attacked on Saturday night at her residence in Kisiita East Cell.
Preliminary police findings indicate that a group of masked men, armed with machetes, stormed her home at around 9pm and demanded money from the occupants.
When Natukunda allegedly refused to hand over cash, the attackers turned violent and killed her at the scene.
Police further report that the assailants threatened other people inside the house, including her husband, Justus Tugumisirize, warning them against raising an alarm during the attack.
The attackers later fled with approximately Shs 17.5 million in cash before escaping the area.
Tugumisirize later alerted authorities, prompting a police response and the launch of investigations into the murder and robbery.
Albertine Region police spokesperson Julius Hakiza confirmed the incident, saying specialised units, including the Flying Squad, have been deployed to track down the suspects.
Security agencies say efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest those responsible for the attack.
