Residents of Nansana Municipality have been left in shock following the brutal killing of a recent Makerere University graduate in what authorities suspect was a robbery-related attack.
The deceased, identified as David Bukenya, had recently completed his studies and was running a mobile money business as he looked forward to building his future after university.
According to reports, armed attackers raided Bukenya’s premises during the night and allegedly demanded cash and mobile money credentials. When he reportedly resisted, the assailants turned violent. Investigators believe the attackers later set the house on fire in an attempt to conceal evidence of the crime.
Neighbours were alerted after noticing smoke coming from the building. They rushed to the scene hoping to extinguish the flames and rescue anyone trapped inside. However, they made a devastating discovery when they found Bukenya critically injured. He had suffered severe head wounds and was already dead by the time residents reached him.
The tragedy has sparked an outpouring of grief on social media, where friends, former classmates and community members described Bukenya as a hardworking young man with a promising future ahead of him. Many have called on security agencies to intensify efforts to combat violent crime and bring those responsible to justice.
Police have launched investigations into the killing and are pursuing leads that could help identify the attackers. No arrests had been announced by the time of publication.
Bukenya’s death adds to growing concerns about the safety of business operators, particularly mobile money agents, who are increasingly being targeted by criminals seeking cash. His family and friends are now demanding swift action from authorities as they prepare to lay their loved one to rest.
