Former Speaker of Parliament Anita Among is at the center of one of Uganda’s biggest political stories this year after security agencies reportedly raided her homes and took away several luxury vehicles, cash, electronics, and other property during ongoing investigations into alleged corruption and unexplained wealth.
The operation, which was carried out by a joint security team, attracted massive public attention after videos of expensive cars being towed from her residences started circulating online. Security personnel were seen heavily deployed around her homes in Nakasero and Kigo as detectives searched the properties for several hours.
Among the vehicles reportedly seized was a 2025 Rolls-Royce Cullinan, one of the most expensive luxury SUVs in the world. The vehicle is believed to be worth more than Shs3 billion and had recently become a major topic on Ugandan social media after photos of it linked to Among surfaced online.
The black Rolls-Royce was reportedly removed from her Kigo residence and taken to Naguru Police Headquarters for inspection and verification as investigators examined ownership documents and financial records connected to the vehicle.
Security operatives are also said to have taken several Range Rover vehicles from properties linked to the former Speaker. Reports indicate that detectives are trying to establish how the vehicles were acquired and whether they are connected to ongoing investigations into abuse of office and illicit enrichment.
Two Toyota Land Cruisers were also reportedly impounded during the searches. Witnesses around Nakasero said security officers spent hours documenting vehicles parked at the residence before towing some of them away under tight security.
Beyond the luxury cars, investigators allegedly recovered large amounts of cash in both Ugandan shillings and foreign currencies. Phones, laptops, tablets, CCTV systems, and other electronic devices were also seized for forensic analysis.
Some media reports further claimed that firearms were recovered during the searches, although authorities have not yet released a full official statement confirming all the items that were taken from the properties.
The raids came just days after Anita Among pulled out of the race for Speaker of the 12th Parliament, a move that fueled even more political speculation in Kampala. Her sudden withdrawal shocked many of her supporters and immediately triggered rumors of growing pressure from powerful figures within government.
For months, criticism had been growing online over the luxurious lifestyle associated with some top government officials. The Rolls-Royce especially became a symbol in public debate, with many Ugandans questioning how public leaders are able to afford vehicles worth billions of shillings while ordinary citizens continue struggling with high living costs.
Social media platforms have since been flooded with reactions, with some people describing the operation as a major anti-corruption crackdown, while others believe it could be connected to larger political battles happening behind the scenes.
By Wednesday evening, security agencies had not yet announced whether criminal charges would immediately follow, but investigations into the properties and vehicles were still ongoing according to multiple Ugandan media reports.
