Two Die on Spot after Toyota Noah, Tausi Bus Collide in Bushenyi

    By Aijuka PeterMarch 5, 2026

Two people died on the spot on Thursday evening after a Toyota Noah lost control and slammed head-on into a Tausi bus at Kantojo Village in Rwentuha Town Council, Bushenyi District.

The Noah, registration number UA196AY, was heading towards Mbarara when it veered into the path of the Tausi bus, registration number UA707AK, which was travelling in the opposite direction towards Ishaka. Both occupants of the Noah were killed instantly.

Several other passengers sustained critical injuries and were rushed to KIU Hospital for emergency treatment. The bodies of the two deceased were taken to Kabwohe Health Centre IV mortuary for postmortem examination.

Acting Greater Bushenyi Regional Police Spokesperson SP Apollo Tayebwa confirmed the accident and said investigations had begun.

“We received information about a fatal accident that happened this evening at Kantojo Village involving a Tausi Bus and a Toyota Noah. Unfortunately, two people lost their lives on the spot, while several others sustained serious injuries and were taken to KIU Hospital for treatment,” SP Tayebwa said.

He said traffic officers responded quickly and are working to establish the exact cause of the crash.

“Our team is already on the ground to ascertain the cause of the accident. We urge all road users to observe traffic regulations and avoid reckless driving to prevent such tragic incidents,” he added.

The Mbarara-Bushenyi highway has recorded a string of fatal crashes in recent months, with authorities repeatedly urging motorists to slow down on the busy route.

The identities of the two deceased have not yet been officially released.
