GULU — Police in Gulu City are investigating the death of a 52-year-old businesswoman who was found dead at her home on Sunday, with her husband pointing to mounting loan repayment pressure as a possible cause.
Claire Nambooze was found at her home in Vanguard Cell, Laroo Pece Division, Gulu City at around 4:00pm on March 1, 2026. Her husband, Mr Christopher Oola, reported the incident to Gulu Central Police Station.
Aswa West Regional Police Spokesperson Mr David Ongom Mudong confirmed the incident and said investigations are ongoing.
“Police in Gulu City are investigating the circumstances under which Claire Nambooze, a 52-year-old businesswoman, was found dead at her home in Vanguard Cell, Laroo Pece Division,” Mr Mudong said.
Mr Oola told police that his wife had been under significant financial stress, linked to loans amounting to approximately Shs 6 million borrowed from four different financial institutions.
Nambooze ran a small breakfast business near her home. According to accounts given to police, she had left someone in charge of her food stall shortly before the incident and returned home. She was found dead later that afternoon.
Family members told police that the deceased had been overwhelmed by pressure related to the loan repayments in the period before her death.
The body was taken to Gulu City Mortuary. Investigations are ongoing.
