37yr Old Teacher Jailed After Being Ballooned By Her Teen Student

    By OnionMarch 13, 2026

A former high school teacher in the United States has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after admitting to sexually abusing students under her care, in a case that shocked the community and exposed the lasting psychological impact on the victims.

Julie Rizzitello, 37, from New Jersey, pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree sexual assault involving two male students. The offences occurred while she was employed at Wall Township High School in Monmouth County.

Court proceedings heard that Rizzitello engaged in “various sexual acts” with the students over several months. Prosecutors said one victim was between 16 and 17 years old at the time and was under her direct supervision, while the second victim, aged between 18 and 22, was also one of her students.

According to evidence presented in court, Rizzitello had repeated sexual encounters with one of the boys between 2017 and 2018 and allegedly encouraged him to engage in unprotected sex. Reports indicated that she later became pregnant by the student and informed him that she had terminated the pregnancy.

Rizzitello entered a guilty plea in August last year. During sentencing, Superior Court Judge Jill Grace O’Malley described the profound emotional harm suffered by the victims, noting that one student was still struggling to process the psychological consequences of the relationship and the abortion.

“This is the psychological impact — the devastation,” the judge said, adding that the teacher had “preyed upon” a student who must now live with the reality that he was sexually abused by someone in a position of trust.

Assistant Prosecutor Keri-Leigh Schaefer read a victim impact statement in which one survivor expressed belief that the former teacher required serious mental health intervention. Another victim told the court he first had sexual intercourse with Rizzitello after turning 18, though the judge ruled he had been groomed while still a minor.

Defence attorney Mitchell Ansell requested a reduced five-year sentence, citing Rizzitello’s lack of prior criminal history and her participation in therapy while in custody, as well as the hardship imprisonment would cause her two young children.

Addressing the court, Rizzitello apologised to her family and friends, promising she would never repeat her actions and pledging to remain present in her children’s lives. However, Judge O’Malley criticised the statement for failing to acknowledge the victims directly.

“I believe that her remorse is genuine, but her remorse is misplaced,” the judge said. “It’s for herself. It’s for her family. It’s for her kids.”

The case has reignited debate in the United States about abuse of authority within schools and the long-term emotional consequences faced by students exploited by trust.
