DNA samples from the late Kadongo Kamu musician Paul Job Kafeero are set to be sent to either South Africa or the United Kingdom for independent testing, as authorities seek to resolve ongoing disputes over his confirmed biological children.
The announcement was made by State Minister Balaam Barugahara, who said the move follows growing disagreement over earlier DNA results that identified only four individuals out of 25 claimants as Kafeero’s biological children.
According to the initial findings presented at a meeting held at the Uganda Police Headquarters in Naguru, Kampala, the confirmed children include Kafeero Bendicto, Kafeero Simon Peter, Kafeero Thomas, and Nagawa Elizabeth. The results, however, have been strongly rejected by some of those who tested negative, sparking renewed public debate.
In response to the controversy, government officials say a second round of testing will now be conducted abroad in a bid to ensure transparency and settle the long-running family dispute.
Barugahara said the decision was reached after consultations involving several stakeholders, noting that the samples will be sent to a certified foreign laboratory for confirmatory analysis.
He added that the process has been supported by figures including Mama Phina, General David Ssejusa, and Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
“Mama Phina, Gen. Ssejusa and many others, with the help of General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, we shall send the samples to South Africa or the UK for a confirmatory test, and that will be done soon,” Barugahara said.
The exhumation and DNA testing were carried out after years of disagreements within Kafeero’s family over the identity of his children, a matter that has remained unresolved since the musician’s death.
The upcoming overseas testing is expected to provide final clarity and bring closure to one of the most closely followed inheritance and paternity disputes in Uganda’s entertainment history.
