NUP Suffers Another Defeat as NRM’s Idah Nabayiga Wins Kalangala Woman MP Seat

    By OnionJune 25, 2026

The Electoral Commission has officially announced Idah Nabayiga of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) as the newly elected Woman Member of Parliament for Kalangala District.

The declaration followed the conclusion of the voting exercise, vote counting, and tallying process conducted across the district. Kalangala District Returning Officer Ronald Agaba confirmed the results and declared Nabayiga the winner in accordance with Uganda’s electoral laws.

According to the Electoral Commission, the by-election was carried out under the established legal and electoral framework, with polling activities completed successfully across the district.

Following the announcement of the final results, the Commission congratulated Nabayiga on her victory and thanked all individuals and institutions that contributed to the smooth conduct of the election.

In its statement, the Electoral Commission expressed appreciation to voters, candidates, political parties, election officials, security personnel, observers, members of the media, and other stakeholders who participated in the electoral process.

The Commission noted that the cooperation demonstrated by various stakeholders played an important role in ensuring an orderly and credible election.

Nabayiga’s victory strengthens the National Resistance Movement’s presence in Parliament and gives Kalangala District a new representative in the House.

The Electoral Commission also reiterated its commitment to promoting peaceful and transparent elections, urging continued respect for electoral procedures and cooperation among all participants in future electoral activities across the country.
