Makerere University Student Develops a Device That Will Help Women Urinate While Standing

    By OnionJune 5, 2026

A Makerere University student has designed a disposable device that allows women to urinate while standing, aiming to improve hygiene and convenience in public toilets.

The invention, called Pee-Gal, was created by final-year student David Kaleebu and showcased at an innovation exhibition at the College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology.

Kaleebu said the idea was inspired by the poor condition of many public toilets and the discomfort women often face when using them, especially in unhygienic environments.

The device is a small paper funnel used once and discarded after use. It helps direct urine without contact with toilet surfaces, reducing exposure to germs.

Each pack includes several disposable units along with basic hygiene items such as sanitizer and tissues.

The innovation was part of a broader student exhibition featuring practical solutions across health, sanitation, and technology fields.

University officials say such projects reflect growing student interest in real-world problem solving and locally driven innovation.
