The government is negotiating with English Premier League clubs to feature the #VisitUganda brand on team jerseys as part of efforts to market the country to a global audience.
State Minister for Tourism, Hon. Susan Nakawuki Nsambu, revealed the development, saying discussions are ongoing with several Premier League teams.
“We are negotiating with Premier League teams to have #VisitUganda on their jerseys,” Nakawuki said.
If successful, the initiative would place Uganda’s tourism brand before millions of football fans worldwide through one of the most watched sports leagues globally.
The move mirrors similar tourism marketing partnerships pursued by other countries, including Rwanda, whose “Visit Rwanda” campaign has appeared on the shirts and sleeves of major European football clubs.
Uganda has previously explored the idea of leveraging the global popularity of the English Premier League to promote tourism, with lawmakers and government officials arguing that football sponsorships could significantly boost the country’s international visibility.
The government has not yet disclosed which clubs are involved in the negotiations or the potential cost of the proposed partnerships.
Tourism remains one of Uganda’s key economic sectors, with authorities increasingly seeking innovative ways to market the country’s wildlife, culture, and natural attractions to international travelers.
