A disagreement over meat distributed during a community gathering ended in tragedy after a man was allegedly stabbed to death in Rubirizi District.
The victim, identified as 50-year-old Joachim Tumwebaze, was a resident of Mubanda D Village in Ryeru Sub-county. He was killed on Thursday evening following a dispute that broke out as residents shared meat donated by Dunyaruguru County Member of Parliament Benjamin Cadet.
According to preliminary police findings, local residents had assembled to receive portions of the donated meat when an argument erupted between Tumwebaze and another man over the allocation of the meat.
What began as a verbal exchange quickly turned violent. Witnesses told investigators that the suspect allegedly grabbed a sharp object that had been used during the slaughtering process and attacked Tumwebaze, leaving him with severe injuries.
Community members rushed the injured man to Rubirizi Medical Centre in an effort to save his life. However, medical workers pronounced him dead shortly after his arrival.
Police in the Greater Bushenyi region have confirmed the incident and launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the killing.
Regional police spokesperson SP Apollo Tayebwa said the suspect fled the scene immediately after the attack and has not yet been apprehended. Security personnel have since intensified efforts to track him down.
The deceased’s body was taken to Rugazi Health Centre IV mortuary for a postmortem examination as detectives continue gathering evidence and recording statements from witnesses.
The shocking incident has left residents stunned, with many struggling to understand how a dispute over donated food escalated into a fatal confrontation.
Police have urged anyone with information that could assist in locating the suspect to report to the nearest security authorities.
