Shock and grief have engulfed students and staff at Mbarara University of Science and Technology after a student died suddenly on campus while preparing to sit for examinations.
The student, identified as Nowembabazi Marvin, was a third-year Bachelor of Procurement and Supply Management student at the university’s Faculty of Business and Management Sciences.
According to information from the university, Marvin collapsed on Friday morning shortly before the start of his examination. He was reportedly at the faculty premises preparing for the paper when the incident happened.
His death was later confirmed by the Dean of Students, Mr Ambrose K. Mugisha, in a notice circulated within the university community.
“Mbarara University of Science and Technology regrets to announce the untimely death of Mr Nowembabazi Marvin,” the statement read.
The sudden incident sent waves of sadness across the campus, with fellow students describing the deceased as calm, hardworking, and focused on his studies.
By press time, the exact cause of death had not yet been established.
The university community has since continued to mourn the young student, with many expressing sympathy to his family, friends, and classmates during this difficult period.
