Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has announced that his son, Private Ruhamya Kainerugaba, is currently undergoing military training at the renowned Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the United Kingdom, marking another chapter in the Museveni family’s long military tradition.
In a post shared on X on Thursday, Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces praised his son for his performance at the elite British military institution.
“My beloved son, Ruhamya, is doing an excellent job in Sandhurst. All good Ugandans should pray for him every day,” Gen Muhoozi wrote.
The post included photos of Ruhamya dressed in combat gear while taking part in field training exercises alongside fellow cadets at the academy.
Gen Muhoozi later posted another image showing a comparison between his own days at Sandhurst and his son’s current training experience nearly three decades later.
“Father and son going through the same hardships. Separated by 27 years. God bless Ruhamya,” he wrote.
The side-by-side photos quickly sparked reactions online, with many supporters describing them as a symbol of continuity, discipline and dedication to military service within Uganda’s First Family.
The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst is widely recognised as one of the world’s top military training institutions. Over the years, it has produced senior military officers, monarchs and world leaders from different parts of the world.
Some of its famous alumni include former British Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill, Jordan’s King Abdullah II, the late Sultan Qaboos of Oman, former Qatar Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, former Botswana President Ian Khama and former Nigerian Head of State Yakubu Gowon.
The academy has also trained prominent military commanders such as Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery, while members of the British Royal Family including Prince William and Prince Harry also studied there.
Gen Muhoozi joined the Uganda People’s Defence Forces in 1999 as an Officer Cadet. A year later, he graduated from Sandhurst and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant.
His military career later saw him lead the Special Forces Command, serve as Commander of Land Forces and eventually rise to the position of Chief of Defence Forces.
Ruhamya’s training comes only months after Gen Muhoozi publicly revealed that his son had joined the UPDF, describing it as a blessing to the “House of Museveni” following his own 31 years of military service.
