Uganda’s political and social circles have been buzzing after reports emerged that Speaker of Parliament Anita Among acquired a brand new Rolls-Royce Cullinan reportedly worth about Shs3.4 billion. The ultra-luxury SUV has since become one of the most talked-about vehicles in the country, attracting both admiration and criticism across social media and political spaces.
While many Ugandans have already seen photos of the luxury machine online, there are several fascinating details about the car that most people still do not know.
The vehicle in question is believed to be a 2025 Rolls-Royce Cullinan, one of the most expensive and prestigious SUVs in the world. According to reports, the luxury SUV was airlifted into Uganda from the United Kingdom before clearance and tax payments pushed its estimated total cost close to Shs3.4 billion.
One of the biggest surprises about the Rolls-Royce Cullinan is that it is not just a car, but a handmade luxury masterpiece. Unlike ordinary vehicles assembled rapidly on production lines, Rolls-Royce vehicles are carefully crafted by specialists in England, with some parts hand-stitched, polished, and inspected multiple times before delivery.
The Cullinan is also Rolls-Royce’s first-ever all-wheel-drive SUV, designed specifically for wealthy clients who want both luxury and power. Despite weighing nearly three tonnes, the vehicle is powered by a twin-turbocharged 6.7-liter V12 engine capable of producing close to 600 horsepower. Reports indicate it can move from 0 to 60 miles per hour in about 4.5 seconds, something many sports cars struggle to achieve.
Another remarkable feature is the suspension system. The Cullinan uses advanced air suspension technology combined with road-scanning cameras that detect imperfections on the road and automatically adjust the vehicle for maximum comfort. This is why many people describe the experience inside a Rolls-Royce as “floating” rather than driving.
Inside the vehicle, luxury reaches another level entirely. The SUV reportedly comes with premium leather seats, custom wood finishes, hidden umbrellas inside the doors, rear entertainment screens, and a 1,400-watt sound system with 18 speakers. Passengers can even connect Bluetooth headphones and stream separate entertainment content while traveling.
The famous Spirit of Ecstasy ornament on the bonnet is another detail many people admire. The silver statue automatically retracts into the vehicle if touched or tampered with, protecting it from theft or vandalism.
What has shocked many Ugandans even more is that Anita Among reportedly said the Rolls-Royce was a “birthday gift.” Reports further indicated that the Uganda Revenue Authority assessed taxes amounting to roughly Shs1.2 billion on the vehicle, with arrangements reportedly made for staggered payment.
The car has also placed Anita Among among an exclusive global club of Rolls-Royce Cullinan owners that includes royalty, billionaires, celebrities, athletes, and business tycoons. International figures known to own the luxury SUV include football stars, Hollywood celebrities, and wealthy business moguls.
However, the luxury purchase has sparked heated debate in Uganda. Critics questioned the timing of such extravagance at a moment when many Ugandans continue to face economic hardship, unemployment, and rising living costs. Some political observers even linked the backlash to recent tensions surrounding the Speakership race.
On social media, reactions have ranged from admiration to outrage. Some users praised the Speaker’s luxurious taste and success, while others accused political leaders of disconnecting from ordinary citizens struggling to survive. Twitter(X) users discussing the car also questioned whether Uganda’s road infrastructure even suits such an ultra-expensive vehicle.
Whether viewed as a symbol of success, power, controversy, or extravagance, Anita Among’s Rolls-Royce Cullinan has already cemented itself as one of the most talked-about luxury cars Uganda has seen in recent years.
