Police in Bukedi North have arrested a primary school teacher after he was caught red-handed attempting to defile his 16-year-old P.7 pupil inside a lodge in Budaka District.
Eria Odongo, 30, a teacher at Nampiido Primary School in Tirinyi Sub-county, Kibuku District, was arrested on Wednesday, March 17, 2026 at around 9:30 a.m., according to regional police spokesperson Wilfred Kyempasa.
Odongo allegedly lured the girl out of school by telling her to escort him to the market for shopping. The headteacher grew suspicious and questioned him, but Odongo deflected, claiming the girl had been sent by her mother to buy items for Eid El Fitri celebrations.
The two then left school together on a motorcycle and checked into a lodge room in Budaka District, where Odongo began demanding sex from the pupil and started touching her. The girl screamed for help.
Neighbours heard the alarm, rushed to the scene, and forced the door open. Odongo was handcuffed on the spot and taken to Budaka Central Police Station, where he remains in custody.
The victim’s name has been withheld.
