Prominent businessman Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia was among Uganda’s top entrepreneurs, government officials and other distinguished guests who attended a thanksgiving dinner hosted by veteran entrepreneur Mrs. Goodra Tumusiime Behakanira at Speke Resort Munyonyo.
The colourful event brought together thousands of invited guests, including ministers, Members of Parliament, business executives and historical figures, to celebrate Goodra’s life, business achievements and journey of faith.
The evening featured worship, testimonies and reflections, with guests applauding Goodra’s resilience and determination in building a successful business career from humble beginnings. Ruparelia joined fellow members of Uganda’s business community in honouring her contribution to entrepreneurship and national development.
While addressing the gathering, Goodra recounted how her entrepreneurial journey started with a small kiosk in Kabale. She said the modest business became the foundation of a growing enterprise built through discipline, perseverance and unwavering faith.
She also paid tribute to her late husband, saying they worked together to expand their investments despite financial hardships and personal challenges. She encouraged aspiring entrepreneurs to embrace patience, integrity and hard work, noting that lasting success is achieved through consistency rather than shortcuts.
Guests listened as Goodra shared personal experiences that shaped her life, including difficult moments during the early years of her marriage. She described how faith sustained the family through those challenges before the birth of their child, which she said became one of the greatest blessings in her life.
She also recalled surviving a frightening incident involving a building under construction, saying the experience strengthened her appreciation for life and reinforced her belief in God’s protection.
Beyond her business career, Goodra revealed that she played a role during Uganda’s liberation struggle by providing logistical support to the National Resistance Army during the bush war despite the dangers involved. Her remarks were met with applause from guests, many of whom commended her contribution to both the country’s history and its private sector.
The thanksgiving attracted several high-profile guests, including Kwagalana Group chairman Godfrey Kirumira, Cabinet ministers Justine Kasule Lumumba and David Bahati, Members of Parliament and other senior leaders from the public and private sectors.
Also in attendance was Col. Samson Mande, one of the recognised veterans of the NRA bush war who recently returned from exile, adding historical significance to the occasion.
The celebration concluded with prayers, entertainment and networking, as guests congratulated Goodra on a journey they described as a testament to faith, resilience and entrepreneurial success. Held at Speke Resort Munyonyo, the event highlighted the strong ties between Uganda’s business community and leaders whose stories continue to inspire future generations.
