Kyambogo University students and staff are mourning the death of a third-year student whose body was discovered several days after he disappeared, sparking calls for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
The deceased has been identified as Okia Aaron, a Bachelor of Business Administration student with Registration Number 24/U/BKE/10979/PE. He was reported missing earlier this week after he was last seen on Monday.
Following his disappearance, relatives, friends and fellow students launched a widespread search campaign, sharing a missing person notice across social media platforms and within the university community. They appealed to anyone with information about his whereabouts to come forward, saying they feared for his safety.
After days of uncertainty, Aaron’s body was recovered. According to those close to him, the body showed visible signs of physical assault, raising suspicions that he may have been attacked before his death.
The news has left the Kyambogo University community in shock, with many students expressing grief and demanding justice.
“It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Okia Aaron. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” a message shared by family and friends read.
As news of his death spread, calls intensified for the Uganda Police Force to launch a comprehensive investigation and establish what happened during the period Aaron was missing. Many have urged investigators to work closely with Kyambogo University authorities to identify those responsible and ensure they are brought to justice.
The incident has also triggered broader concerns about public safety, with social media users arguing that more attention should be devoted to tackling violent crime and improving the security of ordinary citizens.
Police had not yet released an official statement on the circumstances surrounding Aaron’s death by the time of publication.
