Fresh details have emerged about one of the most prominent claimants in the late Prince Paul Job Kafeero paternity dispute after relatives and friends identified him as Richard Happy Muhumuza and said both of his biological parents are alive in Kabarole District.
The revelations come days after government DNA tests ruled out Muhumuza, who had publicly presented himself as Paul Ssentongo Kafeero, as one of the Kadongo Kamu legend’s biological children. The DNA exercise confirmed that only four of the 25 people tested were biologically related to the late musician.
According to relatives who have since spoken publicly, Muhumuza’s biological mother is Mariam Birungi, while his father has been identified as Sylvester Rubanyi, also known as Kaija. Family members said they were shocked to see him claim he was an orphan and a son of Kafeero, insisting he grew up in Kabarole before relocating to Kampala.
Muhumuza had become one of the best-known claimants in the long-running inheritance dispute, with his resemblance to Prince Paul Job Kafeero attracting widespread public attention. During the paternity battle, he reportedly used the names Paul Ssentongo Kafeero while maintaining that he was the late musician’s son.
The DNA results, released by the Uganda Police Forensic Directorate and the Government Analytical Laboratory, confirmed only Simon Peter Kafeero, Elizabeth Nagawa, Thomas Swaz Kafeero and Benedict Kafeero as the biological children of the late singer. The remaining 21 claimants, including Muhumuza, were excluded.
The DNA exercise followed a court-approved exhumation of Kafeero’s remains to help resolve the nearly two-decade dispute over his estate. Government officials have since urged those whose claims were rejected to accept the scientific findings as the process of administering the musician’s estate continues.
