Ugandan long-distance runner Joshua Cheptegei has shared a fresh update on the construction of his multi-billion-shilling hotel in Kapchorwa, revealing that the ambitious project is steadily nearing completion.
The Olympic and world champion recently posted new photos of the development on social media, giving fans a closer look at the progress of the hotel, which is estimated to cost about Shs26 billion.

“Friends, this baby is taking shape in the scenic magical Kapchorwa,” Cheptegei wrote while sharing images of the impressive structure.
The hotel is being fully funded by Cheptegei using earnings from his successful athletics career, making it one of the largest private investments ever undertaken by a Ugandan athlete.
Cheptegei also praised his wife, Engineer Carol Kamari, for the vital role she has played throughout the project. According to the athlete, she has been deeply involved in overseeing the construction and ensuring everything runs smoothly.

“I thank my dear wife, Eng. Carol Kamari, for her great support. She has been very instrumental in this project as the project consultant, site manager and resident engineer,” he said.
Once completed, the hotel is expected to create more than 400 jobs, providing employment opportunities for local residents and boosting the economy of Kapchorwa and the wider Sebei sub-region.
Cheptegei said the investment goes beyond business and reflects his long-term commitment to promoting tourism, creating jobs, and supporting Uganda’s economic development.
“This investment aligns with my vision to promote tourism in Sebei, create jobs for locals and contribute to national development,” he said.

Situated on the slopes of Mount Elgon, Kapchorwa is widely known for its stunning landscapes and as the birthplace of many of Uganda’s world-class distance runners. Cheptegei believes the hotel will attract local and international tourists, athletes preparing for competitions, and conference visitors, helping position the region as a leading destination for sports tourism, adventure travel, and hospitality.
