Former Kampala Central Member of Parliament Muhammad Nsereko has claimed that former Speaker of Parliament Anita Among is facing serious health challenges, alleging that she is suffering from blood clots in her legs.
Speaking during a live TikTok session, Nsereko said the condition had reportedly caused significant swelling in both of Among’s legs, making movement difficult. He did not provide evidence to support the claims, and Among had not publicly commented on the allegations at the time of publication.
Nsereko’s remarks come amid continued scrutiny surrounding Among following reports that she was placed under house restrictions at her Nakasero residence as investigations into alleged corruption and abuse of office intensified.
Security arrangements at Among’s residence have also changed in recent weeks. Earlier this month, Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) soldiers who had been deployed at the property withdrew and were replaced by personnel from the Presidential Guard Police and the Counter-Terrorism Directorate.
The developments followed a major security operation launched on May 16, when armed UPDF soldiers entered properties linked to Among, disarmed her security team, and facilitated searches by detectives from the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID).
Investigators conducted searches at her residences in Nakasero and Ntinda, as well as at her under-construction home in Kigo, Wakiso District, as part of an ongoing corruption investigation.
During the operation in Kigo, authorities recovered several luxury vehicles, including a Rolls-Royce Cullinan reportedly valued at more than Shs3.4 billion and a number of Range Rovers. The vehicles were later taken to Police headquarters in Naguru for further examination.
The investigation has also extended to Bukedea District, where security teams reportedly searched properties associated with some of Among’s relatives. Several senior Parliament officials are also said to have recorded statements with investigators as inquiries continue.
Neither Among nor her legal representatives had publicly responded to Nsereko’s health claims by press time.
