    On the day of the incident, Ramlatu reportedly called her husband to confirm whether he would be delayed at work. He is said to have told her that he would not be coming home early. To be sure, she allegedly contacted one of his close friends, a provision shop owner, to ask whether her husband had passed by the shop, which he sometimes does after work. The friend reportedly said he had not seen him that day.

    Believing she was alone for the rest of the afternoon, the woman is said to have invited a young man to the house. The man is described as a former classmate from a community nursing training school. Reports indicate they spent several hours together inside the house and later entered the couple’s bedroom.

    The situation changed unexpectedly between 4:00 pm and 5:00 pm when the husband returned home earlier than anticipated. Upon entering the bedroom, he reportedly found his wife with the young man, leading to an immediate confrontation.

    Neighbours say the husband raised an alarm, drawing people from nearby homes. The young man was reportedly restrained as emotions ran high, but residents quickly stepped in to calm the situation and prevent it from turning violent.

    Although no serious injuries were reported, the incident left the household and the surrounding community deeply shaken.

    Museveni Orders Security Forces to Stop Caning Civilians

    President Yoweri Museveni has ordered the national armed forces and police to immediately stop the practice of caning civilians, especially during arrests and crowd control.

    In his end of year address, the president said he does not support the use of canes or batons on lawbreakers, even though some police forces in other countries use them during crowd control.

    “Some police forces around the world do it using batons. I, however, reject it. It must stop,” Museveni said.

    He added that although caning was commonly used by teachers and parents in the past, it was not the right way to enforce discipline.

    The president advised the police to instead use teargas, which he said is legal and non-lethal. However, he cautioned that even teargas should be used carefully and in an organized manner.

    Museveni instructed security forces to issue clear warnings before using teargas, water cannons, or other non-lethal methods, so that people are given enough time to disperse.

    “The police should be much more methodical. They should use loudspeakers to warn people and give them time to move away before taking action,” he said.

    The directive is expected to influence how security agencies handle public order operations going forward.

    Sahel military leaders fire back as Mali and Burkina Faso issue travel bans to Americans

    In response to travel bans issued by the United States government earlier in the month, Mali and Burkina Faso have decided to retaliate, issuing their own travel restrictions on U.S citizens.

    Midway into the month, reports indicated that the United States had broadened its travel restrictions, adding several countries, among them Nigeria and multiple African states aligned with the Alliance of Sahel States (AES).

    The travel bans dated December 16, 2025, immediately sparked a wave of reactions across the continent.

    According to US authorities, the restrictions are intended to strengthen national security by closing gaps in vetting processes, information sharing, and screening systems.

    The decision expands the scope of Proclamation 10949, initially applied to 12 high-risk countries, to now cover Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, South Sudan, and Syria.

    These countries join others such as Afghanistan, Iran, Libya, and Somalia under full entry restrictions, halting visa issuance over security concerns tied to terrorism and governance issues.

    In response, Mali and Burkina Faso recently issued their own travel ban on the United States, a move synonymous with AES countries.

    In statements released on Tuesday, the two AES countries said their decision was based on reciprocity, following a December 16 announcement by the White House that US President Donald Trump had included them, along with five other countries, on a list facing a complete travel ban.

    As seen on Reuters, the US noted that the restrictions are set to take effect on January 1, and affected “countries with demonstrated, persistent, and severe deficiencies in screening, vetting, and information-sharing to protect the Nation from national security and public safety threats.

    Malian authorities said on Tuesday that the United States acted unilaterally in adding the country to its travel ban, stressing that no advance discussions took place and dismissing the reasons cited as disconnected from the situation in Mali.

    They also noted that Mali and Burkina Faso are not alone, as other countries previously hit by similar US travel measures have gone on to impose their own restrictions on American citizens.

    On Christmas Day, the neighboring AES state, Niger, revealed via its local media that it was banning all US citizens from entering its borders.
