Police in Kisoro District are investigating a murder that happened on the night of September 13, 2025, in Gishondori Village, Muramba Subcounty. A 25-year-old mother of three, Anna Fayida, who was a Mutwa by tribe, was beaten to death by her 21-year-old husband, Turinayo Besigye.

Investigators believe Besigye killed her out of anger, accusing her of refusing to conceive a child with him.

The LC1 Chairperson of Gishondori Village, Mr. Sigwa Simon, said he got a distress call at around 9PM from Besigye’s brother, who reported the murder. Simon explained that he immediately contacted Muramba Police to intervene. He described Besigye as a troublemaker, saying he was a known criminal who had been arrested several times before but later released.

Fayida’s mother, Jesca Nyirabarera, expressed deep sorrow. She said she was on her way from Koranya Trading Centre when she heard people raising alarms. Residents told her that her daughter had been killed.

Community members revealed that Fayida had been previously married to a UPDF soldier and had three children with him—two girls and one boy—before marrying Besigye.

The suspect’s brother, Robert Niyonzimama, shared details of what happened before the killing. He said he was called at around 8PM to intervene in a fight between the couple. When he tried to separate them, Besigye turned violent and attacked him. Robert said Besigye used marijuana, and he only escaped further harm when another brother pulled him away.

After his arrest, Besigye admitted to killing Fayida. He told investigators that she had promised him a child but never gave him one. He also complained that the three children in the home were not his, and he wanted children of his own.

Homicide officers visited the scene, drew a sketch map, and took Fayida’s body to Kisoro Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination.

According to the 2024 police crime report, Uganda recorded an increase in killings. The report showed that at least 26 people die every day from murders and accidents. Homicide cases rose from 4,248 to 4,329, with 4,411 people losing their lives. Among them, 3,703 were men and 708 were women.

A family in Kapsara, Kitale, is mourning the sudden death of their daughter, Lornah Chebet, who died in a tragic road accident while working in Saudi Arabia.

Chebet had moved to Abha with hopes of building a better future for her loved ones.Her life was cut short when the car she was travelling in with her employer, the employer’s husband, and their two children crashed on the way to Riyadh.

According to reports, the employer’s husband and one of the children died instantly at the scene.

Chebet, her employer, and the second child were rushed to hospital in critical condition.

Despite doctors’ efforts, Chebet later died at Al Muzahmiyya General Hospital.The four-year-old child also passed away while undergoing treatment.

News of the accident reached her family through social media.

Her sister, Mercy Jepkemoi, confirmed the heartbreaking news in a tearful TikTok video, describing Chebet as the fourth born in a family of six.

Jepkemoi expressed deep pain over the loss and prayed for strength for her grieving family.

Preparations are now underway to repatriate Chebet’s body for burial.Neighbours and friends in her village have remembered her as a hard-working and determined young woman who left home with hopes of improving the lives of her family members.

The accident has left two families devastated, one in Saudi Arabia and the other in Kenya, as they come to terms with lives cut short in a tragedy that has shaken many.

A pastor was among two people who lost their lives, and four others were seriously injured, in a head-on crash between a Toyota Passo and a heavy truck on Sunday morning along the Gayaza–Zirobwe Road, according to police.

The accident happened near Magigye, opposite Hummer’s Bar and Green, in Kasangati Division, Wakiso District.

Witnesses explained that the Toyota Passo, registration UBK 115G, was moving from Gayaza to Zirobwe when it left its lane and collided with the oncoming truck, registration UBQ 253B. Others, however, believed the truck driver lost control before the impact, leaving the Passo driver with no chance to avoid the crash.

Police said two occupants of the Toyota Passo died instantly, while four others were left with serious injuries.

The deceased were identified as Obedi Turyatunga, also known as Pastor, who was driving the Passo and came from Ntungamo District, and Promise Andinda, a 4-year-old child.

The injured included 42-year-old teacher Immaculate Aimbisibwe of Bugema Adventist, Gerald Nuwagaba, a teacher at Kinoni Adventist School in Ntungamo District, and 6-year-old Tabisa Ahabwe. It was not clear whether all the occupants belonged to one family.

Police officers at Kasangati visited the scene. The bodies of the deceased were taken to Mulago City Mortuary, while the injured were rushed to Mulago National Referral Hospital for treatment.

A traffic officer who did not want to be named said the truck driver ran away after the crash. The officer also added that both vehicles were towed to the Inspectorate of Vehicles in Naguru for further investigations.

The exact cause of the accident has not yet been confirmed. Police appealed to drivers, especially those handling heavy trucks, to remain cautious and to make sure their vehicles are in good condition. They stressed that accidents like this one show the importance of safe driving and proper vehicle maintenance.

Mandela National Stadium, better known as Namboole, has officially been closed to allow a big upgrade that will expand its size and improve its facilities before the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027.

The stadium, which currently holds just over 40,000 fans, will be expanded to seat 60,000. The project will also include a new hotel, an Olympic-size swimming pool, a bigger VIP section for visiting presidents, and a closed roof. During the construction, no football matches will be played at the venue.

This is the second phase of Namboole’s redevelopment, part of preparations for AFCON 2027. Uganda will host the tournament together with Kenya and Tanzania under the “Pamoja” partnership.

The work has been given to Turkish construction company MS Summa, which is also building the new Hoima City Stadium. That stadium is expected to be completed and handed over by December.

The first phase of Namboole’s renovation was done by the UPDF Engineering Brigade. They refurbished VIP lounges, moved dressing rooms to the western side, created new media and mixed zones, and expanded the presidential section to host up to nine heads of state.

The second phase, led by MS Summa, will focus on bigger structural works. These include increasing seating capacity, installing a roof, and adding a modern indoor arena. The aim is to bring the stadium to international standards and make it a world-class space for both players and fans.

MS Summa is well known for its quality projects and has promised to deliver on time. The company has also suggested a flexible payment plan where Uganda will only need to cover 50 percent of the costs upfront. This has been welcomed as a way to help the country manage its finances.

When finished, the upgraded Namboole will become a top sports venue able to host AFCON 2027 and other big international competitions. Officials say this modernization shows Uganda’s strong commitment to global sporting standards and to raising its profile on the international stage.

Lawmakers from the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) have agreed to a plan to divide Tororo District into three separate districts and upgrade Tororo Municipality into a city. They also approved the creation of Bughendera District out of Bundibugyo, saying the changes will help improve services and reduce ethnic tensions.

The announcement was made by Government Chief Whip Hamson Obua on September 12, 2025, at Parliament. He said the resolutions followed a meeting earlier that day at State House, Entebbe.

Obua explained that the caucus agreed to support the creation of Mukuju District, Mulanda District, Kisoko District, and Tororo City in the financial year 2025/2026, if the law allows. They also backed the creation of Bughendera District from Bundibugyo in the same year, while other new districts and cities will be handled between 2026 and 2031.

Some journalists questioned whether this was gerrymandering, since the Electoral Commission is already preparing for the 2026 elections. But Local Government Minister Raphael Magyezi rejected that claim. He said the decision is about better service delivery, not politics. As an example, he pointed out that when Nakawa was split into two constituencies, both were won by Opposition MPs, which showed such moves do not always benefit the ruling party.

“We are doing this purely for service delivery, peace, and security,” Magyezi said. “Once people pass resolutions through their councils, my duty as Minister is to study them, present them to Cabinet, and then to Parliament. That process is lawful.”

Magyezi also addressed the cost of the plan. He said the Ministry would need around 26 billion shillings to operationalize the new units. He asked Ugandans to look beyond the cost and consider the benefits. He explained that Uganda’s population is growing fast, and with urbanization at 5.3 percent each year, people want services closer to where they live.

While Parliament may approve the new districts and city, it will be up to the Electoral Commission and the Attorney General to decide when elections will take place. Magyezi said the law states that a district created after a general election can only take effect six months before the next one. That means the new districts will be considered as created in July 2025, but the Electoral Commission and Attorney General will interpret how to proceed.

The new arrangement will increase the number of MPs from Tororo. Currently, Tororo has a Woman MP and a Municipality MP. With the changes, each of the three new districts will get a Woman MP, and Tororo City will have its own Woman MP plus two Division MPs. Government believes this will help end long-running conflict between the Iteso and Japadhola communities. Tororo City will remain the main headquarters for the new districts while keeping the name “Tororo.”

Bundibugyo’s split was also defended, with officials pointing to years of ethnic divisions in Bughendera County. In the past, clashes between the Bakonzo, Bamba, and Busi communities led to deaths, including at least three people.

Obua added that the caucus passed other resolutions, including endorsing President Museveni as NRM National Chairperson and Presidential Candidate for 2026, receiving the audit of the party membership register, and supporting reforms to clean up Uganda’s electoral process. He said the NRM is committed to ending the misuse of money, manipulation of results, and extortion in elections, while also focusing on wealth creation for Ugandans.

Divorce is one of the most sensitive issues in marriage, and many people ask whether the Bible allows it. The Bible teaches that marriage is meant to be a lifelong union, but it also recognises that some situations make it impossible or harmful to stay together. In these cases, divorce is allowed.

1. Sexual immorality

In Matthew 19:9, Jesus teaches that unfaithfulness in marriage is a valid reason for divorce. Breaking trust through sexual sin damages the foundation of marriage, and the betrayed partner is not forced to remain.

When a spouse fails to provide care, support, or attention, it destroys the bond. Ongoing neglect can be seen as breaking the vows of marriage.

5. Prolonged absence

If a partner is gone for a long time without responsibility or care for the family, the marriage is damaged beyond repair.

6. Addiction

When addiction takes control of a spouse’s life and destroys the marriage, divorce may be seen as a last option to protect the other partner.

7. Constant conflict

If reconciliation fails and arguments never end, the relationship may become harmful. Divorce may then be seen as a way of ending the cycle of hostility.

8. Violation of trust

Marriage depends on honesty and trust. When that trust is repeatedly broken, the Bible recognises the seriousness of the situation.

9. Harm to well-being and safety

The Bible values both the sanctity of marriage and the safety of individuals. If staying married threatens a person’s life, health, or dignity, divorce is seen as a protection.

A Last Resort

Even though these reasons exist, the Bible does not encourage divorce as the first step. Instead, it calls for forgiveness, reconciliation, and patience whenever possible. Divorce is permitted only when the foundation of love, trust, and respect has been destroyed.

The contest for Kawempe South is growing tense after aspiring Member of Parliament Hon. Fatia Nakamya launched a strong attack on Hajat Madina Nsereko Ntale, the NRM flag bearer. Nakamya accused her rival of creating deep divisions and “frustrated and divided beyond repair” within the ruling party.

At a heated press conference, Nakamya said Madina’s leadership has turned the NRM into a battlefield instead of a unifying force.

“Hajat Madina is determined to make President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni lose heavily in Kawempe South. Instead of bringing members together, she has made them fight each other,” she told reporters.

Nakamya, who recently lost in the party primaries, likened her rival to a “cobra” striking down those who refused to side with her. She claimed Madina targeted her supporters with personal vendettas, while also manipulating the primaries through bribery.

She alleged that Madina’s camp ferried “thousands of gangs” from other constituencies to vote in her favor, an act Nakamya insists compromised the entire election.

“All my supporters have now been turned into enemies. Whoever stood with me during the primaries is being fought. They ferried people from other areas to vote for Madina, and even when I petitioned the NRM tribunal to nullify the results, nothing has been done,” she lamented.

Nakamya added that although she filed a formal petition, the tribunal ignored her case. According to her, the file was declared “closed” and handed to President Museveni.

“I doubt this explanation. Other petitions were worked on but mine has been shelved. I strongly believe the tribunal was bribed,” she alleged.

Surrounded by other NRM members who also claimed their victories were “grabbed,” Nakamya called on President Museveni to step in before the party collapses in Kawempe South.

“We are calling on the chairman to bring us together, stop this infighting, and reconcile members whose victories were stolen. If nothing is done, many of us will go as independents in 2026,” she warned.

Nakamya declared that she will contest as an independent candidate in the 2026 elections, promising to challenge Madina directly.

She accused her rival of arrogance and claimed Madina often brags about being a “state agent” who cannot be challenged.

Nakamya also criticized Madina for holding several public positions while running for parliament.

“How can one person be a Lands Commission member, Kawempe South NRM District Chairperson, and now a parliamentary candidate? Why can’t she allow others to serve? This is selfishness and greed of the highest order,” Nakamya said.

Her remarks echoed the anger of many local members, who fear that unresolved disputes could cost the NRM its hold on Kawempe South in 2026.

The explosive press conference has set the stage for one of Kampala’s most closely watched political battles, with party unity now under serious threat.

The Minister of State for Economic Monitoring, Beatrice Akello, has directed the State House Anti-Corruption Unit to arrest and investigate several officials in Kumi District over allegations of abuse of office, unlawful recruitment, and mismanagement of public funds.

The order was issued on Wednesday during her monitoring visit to government projects in the district. One of the officials named was Miriam Aguti, the Human Resource Officer of Kumi Municipality. She is accused of recruiting workers without clearance from the district service commission, engaging in nepotism by hiring her husband, later promoting him, and unlawfully increasing his salary.

Akello said Aguti had collected money from jobseekers and placed them on the payroll, which created shortages in teacher salaries. She explained that while the district service commission had approved the recruitment of ten teachers, twenty-seven appointment letters were issued even though only twenty candidates had been interviewed.

The minister also accused Aguti of tampering with pension payments. Pensioners who allegedly gave her kickbacks were overpaid, while those who refused were underpaid, a practice that she said had distorted the pension system.

The directive also targeted Francis Eroni, Chairman of the Kumi Municipality Emyooga Boda Boda SACCO. He was accused of working with technical officers to withdraw money from the SACCO account without the mandatory authorization of the municipal commercial officer and the Resident District Commissioner. Akello said that for over a year, he had bypassed the required oversight and excluded even SACCO members.

Investigations were further ordered into Patrick Osire, the Kumi Municipality Engineer. He was accused of absenteeism and negligence after reportedly staying away from duty, ignoring official calls, and leaving his assistant to carry out all the work while continuing to draw a government salary.

In the aftermath of the minister’s revelations, Kumi Municipality Mayor Patrick Ochom called for stronger policies to allow elected leaders to directly monitor financial transactions. He said that without reports from technical officers, it was difficult to know what was happening, and suggested that leaders be given access to computers to track funds in real time as a safeguard against misuse.

The State House Anti-Corruption Unit is now expected to act on the minister’s directive and carry out investigations into the officials named.
