A 35-year-old woman identified as Niwamanya Gorrette, commonly known as Koreti, has died following an alleged assault by her husband in Kabale District.
The incident happened on the evening of June 7, 2026, in Nyakarindi Village, Kasheregyenyi Parish, Kamuganguzi Sub-county.
According to Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson SP Nelson Tumushime, Niwamanya was reportedly at a local bar drinking waragi when a dispute arose between her and her husband, Babikyingira Godfrey, also known as God. Police say the husband accused her of taking his money before allegedly attacking her.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect used an oruyenge fencing plant to beat the victim, causing injuries that later claimed her life.
Officers from Kamuganguzi Police Station responded to the scene and arrested Babikyingira shortly after the incident. He is currently being held at Kabale Central Police Station as police continue with investigations.
Police have condemned the incident and called on members of the public to seek peaceful ways of resolving domestic disagreements instead of resorting to violence.
Investigations into the matter are still ongoing.
